Garbage comes from three main sources: homes, businesses, and demolition or construction sites. In Vancouver, it is the job of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, or GVRD, to dispose of garbage. Garbage, often called solid waste, may be burned or buried. People can also recycle or compost some types of solid waste.
