During their summer in Canada, the geese concentrate on courtship, nesting and brooding. The adult geese molt and grow new wing and tail feathers. By fall, food becomes more scarce and the geese have to search for fresh feeding grounds. It may be this shortage of food that signals them to migrate in fall.
