Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) established its first nuclear power plant division in Toronto in 1958. Their job was to create a plan for a big nuclear power plant. In 1959, a nine-person team of engineers and scientists designed Canada’s first nuclear power plant. Construction of the plant began in 1960 at Douglas Point on Ontario’s Chalk River.
