Biological Pest Control
Description:
-living organisms
Results:
-cause disease in insects
-eat pests
-prevent pests from reproducing

One method is called biological pest control. It uses living organisms to control pest populations. For example, a bacterium called Btk is used throughout Canada to control the spruce budworm. Btk is sprayed on forests and causes a deadly disease in the insect pest, but does not harm other living things. Another type of biological pest control uses the natural enemy of a pest. The natural enemy eats the pest, or stops it from reproducing. For instance, aphids that eat leaves are controlled using ladybird beetles. The ladybird beetle reduces aphid populations by eating the pest. Next
