During World War I, the Canadian Corps was sent to Vimy, France. In December 1916, they spent one month waiting in miserable trenches like the one pictured here. At first, their battle was against rats, lice and cold weather. Within a few months, though, they would attack Vimy Ridge. The Ridge was one of Germany’s strongest positions in Europe.
