At the Burnaby Incinerator, solid waste is burned at a temperature of 1,100 degrees Celsius. Steam from the burning process is collected and used to power a nearby paper recycling plant. Some of the ash is used at a landfill site. The rest is stored in clay containers and buried. This process still causes some air pollution.
