Bison teeth were prized for their use as beads in decorative necklaces. Their horns were carved into spoons, cups and clubs. Sled runners were made from the large, curved rib bones. Other bones were used to fashion scrapers, hoes and knives. Bison hooves were cooked to produce a form of glue. The Plains Peoples often used bison skulls in their religious ceremonies. They believed this would lure the bison to them and ensure the tribe’s prosperity.
