There is a lack of fresh water in the polar bear’s frozen habitat. It has developed a special digestive system to overcome this problem. Digesting red meat uses the energy the bear’s body needs for warmth, so it eats only the fatty portion of its prey. Its special digestive system is then able to extract the water it needs from this fat, or blubber. Next Back
