Many natural chemicals from plants and animals are excellent pesticides. Some plants contain chemicals that taste bad, smell bad, or are even poisonous to pests. Scientists can collect these chemicals and spray them on other plants. Some pests produce their own chemicals that can also be used to control them. Many female insects give off chemicals to attract male mates. Scientists collect the chemical and use it in traps to bait male insects. By reducing the number of male insects available for mating fewer young insects are produced. Next
