Between 1886 and 1914, Canada received over two million immigrants. The majority of them were from America, Britain, and Eastern Europe. The government welcomed these people by offering them free farmland in the West. However, Canada’s immigration policy was not equally generous for Asian immigrants. For example, instead of offering the Chinese an opportunity to come and settle Canada, the Canadian government passed two laws to prevent Chinese immigration.
